The Senet Group has released the following comment in response to media coverage, in ‘The Times’ and elsewhere, regarding new controls on advertising of gambling services.
“Advertising and marketing of gambling services is an understandably high profile issue.”
The Senet Group is an independent self-regulatory body, set up to promote responsible gambling standards. The Enforceable Commitments given by Senet members address when and how offers can be advertised on television; put a duty on advertisers to carry responsible gambling messages every single press and television advertisement; set rules prohibiting gambling machines being advertised in betting shop windows and set out member responsibilities for responsible gambling messaging “online”.
We look continuously with Member companies at developments in the sector and at research that helps show where existing Enforceable Commitments need to be extended or changed and where new Commitments are needed. Advertising was a key issue for Senet and remains so. Self-regulation can deliver change and high levels of compliance quickly. We are keen to discuss how this can work alongside possible legislation to help prevent problem gambling: something that everyone wants to achieve.
